CHRISTINE FOLIVI
We oftentimes hear the phrase, "Did you go outside and touch some grass today?" A lighthearted reminder to step away from the screens and the pressures of daily life, reconnecting with the earth and the world around us. But when I begin to feel consumed by the noise and clutter of modern life, I prefer to ask myself a different question: "What did I gaze at all day? My computer? Food? The ceiling?" This simple query often sparks a deeper reflection about what truly nourishes the soul and brings me back to my roots. It’s in these quiet, sometimes disorienting moments that my camera becomes more than just an instrument; it becomes my anchor.
My name is Christine Folivi, and I am a photographer who has spent much of my life learning how to capture the stillness and beauty that most people overlook. Growing up, I always had a fascination with the world around me. Nature, in particular, was a constant source of inspiration—whether it was the subtle play of light on a tree’s leaves or the quiet elegance of a moment frozen in time. However, it wasn’t until I picked up my first camera that I truly understood how to translate these observations into something tangible, something that could be shared with others.
Photography, to me, is more than just creating beautiful images; it’s about slowing down, observing the nuances of life, and finding meaning in the ordinary. I’ve always found joy in the smallest of moments—the way the sun breaks through a cloud, how raindrops cling to the edges of a leaf, or the serenity that accompanies the first light of dawn. It’s through my lens that I’ve learned to appreciate the fleeting nature of time, and my work often reflects that delicate balance between stillness and movement.
Throughout my journey as a photographer, I’ve worked with a diverse range of subjects, from the untamed beauty of landscapes to the raw emotions found in portraiture. Each project is an opportunity for me to connect deeper with the world, to step outside of my comfort zone, and to challenge myself to see things from a different perspective. I believe that every image I create holds a story, a moment suspended in time, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect.
As a female photographer, I have found a sense of empowerment in my ability to capture and communicate the world through my own lens. In an industry that is often dominated by male voices, I have worked tirelessly to carve out my own space, advocating for diversity and representation. Through my work, I aim to shed light on stories that are often overlooked and to celebrate the beauty and complexity of the human experience in all its forms.
THE GIFT OF SIGHT
I’ve often been asked what drives me to keep photographing despite the challenges that come with this line of work. The answer is simple: I am endlessly fascinated by the world. The act of photographing is a way for me to engage with that curiosity, to take part in the ongoing conversation about how we see and interpret the world around us. Whether I’m shooting a bustling city street or a quiet countryside, I always strive to create images that evoke emotion, spark thought, and encourage others to see the world through a different lens.
The tools I use may have evolved over the years—from my first film camera to the digital equipment I use now—but the essence of my work has remained the same. Photography is a personal journey for me, one that constantly pushes me to refine my vision, my technique, and my understanding of the world. It’s not just about capturing what is in front of me, but about telling a story—my story—and inviting others to see what I see.
When I’m not behind the camera, you can often find me immersed in the art of editing, experimenting with light, color, and composition to create something that feels authentic and true to my vision. I’ve always been fascinated by the process of transformation—how a raw image can evolve into something that feels alive, layered with meaning and depth.
Photography, in its most genuine form, is a deeply reflective practice. It forces you to slow down, to pay attention, and to truly see what is before you. In a world that often feels overwhelming and fast-paced, it has provided me with a sense of balance and clarity. Every time I pick up my camera, I am reminded of the importance of living in the moment, of not getting too lost in the noise, and of finding beauty in the smallest details.
In the end, I believe that my work is a reflection of who I am. Through the lens of my camera, I am able to capture the moments that make life meaningful. And, as I continue to grow and evolve as a photographer, I hope that my images inspire others to look a little closer, to appreciate the ordinary, and to find their own moments of stillness and grace in an otherwise chaotic world.
